Chongqing, China — On Thursday, December 12, 2024, Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Yongchuan District Government of Chongqing, China. This significant collaboration was initiated by the International Cultural Communication Center Malaysia (ICCM) and the International Transnational Education Association (ITEA).
The MoU signing was part of the 2024 China–ASEAN Education Cooperative Week, a prestigious international forum attended by delegations from ASEAN countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Singapore. The event welcomed over 700 participants and aimed to strengthen ties between China and ASEAN countries through educational partnerships.
As one of the key outcomes of this partnership, UPY students will gain access to various academic opportunities such as double degree programs, and master’s and doctoral scholarships. Starting in 2025, 30 UPY students are expected to participate in these programs at The Chinese Society for Technology Education in Chongqing, China.
Dr. Septian Aji Permana, UPY’s Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and International Collaboration, emphasized the strategic importance of the agreement:
“This collaboration not only strengthens our relationship with international partners but also opens global pathways for our students to enhance their academic and professional competencies.”
This partnership is expected to serve as a model for sustainable educational cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, and contribute significantly to the development of international academic networks and student capacity building.
