Strengthening Global Collaboration: UPY Welcomes SEA-Teacher Students and Signs MoA with Philippine Partner University

Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY) welcomed the arrival of SEA-Teacher Project Batch 10 – Second Cohort 2025 students from Northern Iloilo State University (NISU) and the University of San Jose-Recoletos, Philippines. The welcoming ceremony was held at the Rectorate Meeting Room, UPY Campus, Sonosewu, Bantul.

The event was attended by the university’s leadership, including UPY Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Paiman, M.P., Chairman of the UPY Foundation Drs: John Sabari, M.Si., and several deans from UPY’s faculties. The welcoming moment was also marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UPY and NISU, Philippines. The MoA was signed by Dr. Esti Setiawati, M.Pd.., Dean of FKIP UPY, and Dr. Ave Marie P. Genodia, Chairperson of BEED, NISU Main Campus, as a commitment to strengthening international collaboration in the field of education.

This 10th batch of the SEA-Teacher program consists of nine students from the two Philippine universities, who will participate in various academic and cultural activities at UPY from April 15 to May 8, 2025. During their stay, they will be engaged in a teaching practicum at UPY’s partner school, Sekolah Mutiara Persada, while also experiencing Indonesian education and culture firsthand.

According to Prof. Dr. Ir. Paiman, M.P., the SEA-Teacher Project is an international initiative initiated by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO).

“This program aims to broaden pre-service teachers’ perspectives and teaching experience through cross-border practices while promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding between nations,” he said on Friday, April 25, 2025.

He further explained that the program is not only a platform to exchange educational knowledge and teaching methods but also a way to strengthen friendship and collaboration among Southeast Asian countries.

UPY expressed its hope that the presence of SEA-Teacher students will reinforce the shared commitment to preparing resilient, open-minded, and globally aware future educators.
