UPY–UTM Visiting Lecturer Series Champions E-Waste Awareness and Global Environmental Action

Yogyakarta, February 4, 2025 — Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY), in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully hosted a Visiting Lecturer event titled “E-Waste Revolve 2025: Education and Action for Sustainable Electronic Waste Management.” This initiative marks a concrete step toward raising awareness and fostering cross-border collaboration to address the pressing issue of sustainable electronic waste management.

Held in the multimedia room at Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta and connected virtually via Zoom, the event was attended by lecturers and students from various technical units across UPY. The international collaboration featured Dr. Siti Salwa Binti Alias from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, UTM, as the keynote speaker. She shared both scientific insights and practical strategies for managing electronic waste in environmentally friendly and sustainable ways. The session was moderated by Dr. Fathah Dian Sari from the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science and Technology, UPY.

The Visiting Lecturer served as a valuable platform for dialogue and learning, enriching participants’ understanding of the importance of innovation, education, and community engagement in addressing e-waste challenges in the digital age. Participant enthusiasm was evident throughout the interactive discussion, reflecting strong awareness and concern for environmental and sustainability issues.

Beyond knowledge sharing, the event also strengthened international academic networks between institutions. Through this collaboration, UPY aims to continue opening avenues for impactful global partnerships that contribute directly to the quality of education, research, and community service.

This Visiting Lecturer event is expected to be the beginning of broader initiatives supporting more responsible and sustainable electronic waste management, while reaffirming UPY’s commitment to addressing global challenges through transformative education.
