Yogyakarta, September 17, 2025 — The University of PGRI Yogyakarta (UPY) and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a manifestation of their shared commitment to strengthening international academic collaboration.
The signing ceremony, held at the UPY Rectorate meeting room, was officiated by Prof. Dr. Ir. Paiman, M.P., Rector of UPY, and Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Mansor, JP, Vice-Chancellor of UMS.
This MoU marks an important milestone in establishing a five-year strategic collaboration encompassing various academic, scientific, and student-focused activities. Both institutions have agreed to develop programs for student practical training, academic and scientific activities, joint research, seminars, community service, student exchange, teaching internships, training, and workshops. Additionally, they will explore other potential areas of academic cooperation in the future.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Paiman, M.P., expressed that this partnership aligns with UPY’s vision of internationalization.
“We warmly welcome this collaboration as an effort to expand our academic network, enhance research quality, and open up more opportunities for student and faculty mobility,” he stated enthusiastically.




Meanwhile, Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Mansor, JP, conveyed his optimism that the synergy among ASEAN universities would strengthen the foundation of higher education and contribute significantly to regional development.
“This partnership is not only about academics but also about how we can work together to build a better future through education,” he remarked.
This collaboration is expected to serve as the beginning of a long-term partnership that not only strengthens the field of education but also reinforces the role of higher education institutions as agents of global change.
